In the beginning GOD

Updated: Aug 1, 2019

Before there was me... There was God.

Before there was you... There was God.

Before there was anything... There was God.

Having travelled to Kenya last month, I got a chance to see a glimpse of creation at it's finest. I was left in awe of God's creativity and detail.

For the first time, it occured to me that God was working hard 5 days prior to us (mankind) even arriving on the scene.

Before your life became your life, your purpose became your purpose, your visions your visions... God was there!

And not only was He there, but He was busy making sure that everything that you'd need for success was there also.

God exists in our future, way before it becomes what we know to be as 'our present'.

God knew that there could come a day where we would become unsure of who He was and how He worked. So He needed his first move to be something we could look back on to gain insight into how much He loves us, and ultimately, who He is.

God could have chosen anyway to create the heavens and the earth, but he chose this way.

So what does Genesis 1 tell us about our God?

1. God's word changes things! Once God speaks, things are no longer the same. Every time God spoke, something happened. "And God said..... and it was so"

The centurion in Matthew 8:5-13 knew the power of God's word.

The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak the word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

If God says it then it has to be!

Ask God to speak, and watch things change!

2. God takes preparation seriously. Before He could fill the sky with stars, the water with fish or the land with animals, he prepared for them. This preparation was separate to their arrival (they didn't take place in the same day).

The children of Israel experienced first hand God's preparation.

Exodus 13:17-18.

For Israel, war was inevitable. It had to be a part of their journey, but God delayed it, as their preparation entailed the development of their faith. Without faith, they would not be able to overcome what was ahead.

Before you can arrive, there has to be some time of preparation. You don't know what God's end plan is going to require you to hold.

Ephesians 3:20

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us".

So be sure to ask, then allow God to prepare you, and that way, you'll be sure to have exactly what you need for whatever it is He's making.

Everything that God makes and goes on to complete is "very good". God ends each stage (day) of creation with a look and declared it good. Ultimately, if we give God the licence to create in and through our lives, the only thing that we will be able to say, along with Him, when we look back is, this is "very good".

To hear the words, "Well done my GOOD and faithful servant", knowing full well that we started with nothing, will be a testimony in itself of what our 'In the beginning GOD' is able to do with anyone.

Thought for the time...

Am I going to allow God to take what I currently have (which, regardless of how big or small, is nothing in comparison to everything God has to offer) to create something mind blowing?

Challenge of the day:

Give Him permission.

Unlike when God was creating the world, He needs permission from us before he can start our creation story. God's creation of the world impacted the whole world. However, God's recreation of us is limited to the areas that we give Him.

So choose today to give Him everything, so you can experience Him in His fullness.
